September has brought a busy run of activities for residents at The Willows in Marton Moss, and there's plenty more still to come before the month is out.
The Summer Party set the tone, with the F.U.N. Band playing to a full room and a buffet that residents and families are still talking about. Thanks go to Ribby Hall Village, Stella & Star, Stringers of Lytham, and Old Bank House Chocolates for their donations, along with the families who contributed prizes on the day.
Since then, the activities calendar has stayed full. Residents have tried seated yoga dancing, taken on Pool Noodle Hockey in teams, and had a go at a new game the team is calling Ladder Balls. The weekly word association game, held during Tuesday manicures, produced one of the more memorable results of the month, starting at "hippopotamus" and winding its way through fire, medicine, hospital, and eventually holidays, all within a couple of dozen steps. Games like this are simple, but they do real work in keeping residents mentally engaged and give everyone a reason to laugh together.
Morgan the Therapy Dog remains one of the most popular regular visitors, and the response from residents each time he comes in says everything about why animal visits matter in a care setting. Singer Victoria Roberts returned in August and is back again this month, alongside singer Rebecca Topping. Adam from A Lifetime of Wisdom has also been bringing his trishaw to the home, giving residents the chance to get outside for an hour, completely free of charge.
Three new residents, Lynne, Anne, and Ethel, joined The Willows this month, and the team has welcomed a new member of staff, Lyric, to the home. In September, birthdays are being celebrated for Mary, Audrey, and Hilary.
Looking ahead, residents will be watching the Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, trying an indoor golf taster with Golfstarz, and joining the monthly service from St Christopher's Church. The home also runs a weekly Happy Hour, a hairdresser every Monday, and manicures twice a week, alongside the regular rhythm of keep fit, arts and crafts, and bingo.
